My best artwork this year was my clay fish sponge holder, I think this was my best artwork because I liked how it turned out and I liked the colors. I would have liked to redo my artwork that I did of the turtle because I did not like how it turned out and wished it looked more real. Something I have learned in art class is no not rush anything or it won't turn out good, just take your time and it'll be better. I wish we could have done a big artwork using clay because I liked using the clay.

For my artwork I made a letter A out of task board and paper tape and then I painted it. I painted it a couple different shades of blue and purple. I created my artwork by cutting out two big letter A's and then placing paper cups in between the two and then wrapping them in paper tape. After the paper tape dried I painted it and then I added comments of what is important to me on to it. My overall thoughts of this were that it looks pretty good and I liked how it turned out. Standards EvidenceOne contemporary Minnesota American Indian Artist is Frank Big Bear, he is well known for doing paintings, drawings and collages. He mainly bases his artworks on cultural heritage and personal life. Artwork reflects life because art can be based on real situations in life and can spread a powerful message. Artist StatementMy figure is of a person sitting, it goes with abby's project they are two friends sitting together. I made it out of clay and I formed a person out of it. When it was done getting fired I painted it black and Abby and I put them together in the library. I created an artwork that was original because I thought of it and didn't copy off of something online. It is meaningful because it represents two friends hanging out together. We put it in the media center on display because there is a lot of people that go there and we thought that is where it would get the most attention.
In this unit I made a sponge holder in the shape of a fish and a candle holder and I am currently working on a sculpture made out of clay. It is going to be a figure or a person made with clay, it is going to be sitting down. I'm going to present my artwork by presenting it in front of the class rather then put it somewhere in the school.
After I started my project occasionally I asked abby how I was doing and asking her about the colors and if she said no or change the color I took a second look at it and changed the color. Abby told me to change the color around the shell from white to brown because it was too bold. I choose to use cardboard and task board because it was something I wasn't used to working with. When I did something wrong such as paint it the wrong color I fixed it and made it better.
On october 24th I figured out what I was going to do for my artwork and decided I was going to make a sculpture of a turtle. On the 25th I started making it and asked a couple of my classmates if it was starting to look ok and they said yes - the idea looked good. On the 28th I finished making the shell and started to paint it. On the 30th I finished painting the shell and the body and I asked my classmates if it was good. The said the color looked accurate.
One of the things I'm doing that's challenging is working on the colors - making them match. It's also difficult to form the shell into the rounded shape. I picked task board because it's moldable. alsMy artwork is a cardboard building with a box on the bottom and 4 paper towel rolls on top of that with a piece of cardboard on the top of all that. It is all painted white with paint splatters on it and on the top it has a bunch of gems on it. It has an opening in the middle of it where you can open the door or close it. I created it by taking a big piece of cardboard and cutting into 5 pieces and then I paper taped it together and made the bottom. Then I took 4 paper towel rolls and used them as pillars then I put a roof over the top. Then I painted it all white and cut a hole for the door and then I splatter painted over the top of the white. Then last I put gems on the top. I made this because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do so I started to put stuff together and I just kept going from there. My goals for this were to make it look good and I think it looks ok so I think I mostly achieved my goals. My overall thoughts of this are that it looks ok but I could have done better. Targets EvidenceThe first thing I did when making this was look at some different artists. Then I planned out my idea and put it on paper and figured out what the measurements were going to be. Then I found out what material I wanted to use and decided on cardboard. Then I tested some ideas on paper and small pieces of cardboard.
I have started to make a project based on architecture and so far I have the bottom half finished. I'm not sure what its going to be yet i'm just adding pieces and tube and making something. On 10/2 I figured out what I was going to build and on 10/3 I started building and got the bottom cut out and put together.
I used quite a few materials like task board, plaster, wire and plaster gauze I also tried to make an altered book, styrogami and found objects. Something that surprised me about those objects was that you can actually make just about anything you want with them and also plaster is really cool to carve and make. Some of the items I will use again are plaster, plaster gauze and task board baecuse they were really fun to use. I probably will not use styrogami again because it wasn't really that fun and it didn't work as I would have liked it to.
I don't think of myself of much of an artist right now. I hope this year I can learn to try something new in art. I am willing to try to make an artwork that is more out there than I have done before in the past. I am going to try to make an artwork that looks good and i'm going to try to get a good grade in this class.
